10 Things You May Not Know About The Daft Funk Legend

10 Things You May Not Know About The Daft Funk Legend

Daft Punk’s announcement on their split up has surprised and touched the community of Dance music lovers around the world. The French duo has officially ended the 28-year journey of dedicating talents and inspiring many artists around the world.

Daft Punk is an electronic music duo from France consisting of Thomas Bangelter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Daft Punk has made a huge impact on the French House music after the 1990s. The style of the duo has influenced, as well as created inspiration for many artists, especially musicians in the dance world.

On February 22, Daft Punk suddenly posted a video on YouTube after a long time  of silence. Fans thought this would be an unexpected comeback for a new music product, but expected a short movie instead of the disbandment announcement after 28 years of operation (1993-2021).

The video starts with the two slowly walking across a vast desert, still dressed in robotic clothes with legendary helmets. While Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo was still walking, Thomas Bangelter suddenly slowed down and stopped. The distance of the two gradually increased. Time began to count down, Thomas exploded and Homem-Christo walked on alone in the desert.

Daft Punk’s farewell has surprised and touched the fans, especially early EDM fans. Feeling like a heaven of youth and a monument is disappearing in front of their eyes. Many people have left regretful comments and hope the duo will continue as companions.

In order for Daft Punk to live forever in the hearts of fans, today we are going to summarize 10 things not everyone knows about this legendary duo!

1. Thomas Bangalter’s father is a famous Disco producer

Mr. Daniel Vangarde – father of Thomas Bangalter (member of Daft Punk)

Thomas Bangalter’s father – Mr. Daniel Vangarde is a famous Disco producer. He has worked with the major disco labels mainly in Europe. That makes a huge impact on Thoma, and you can feel the disco colors that are so rich in his music. During the early years of his career, Mr. Daniel Vangarde coached the duo and helped them sign major record label Virgin Records when they were young.

2. The group was initially called ‘Darlin, named after their idol’s song – the band Beach Boys.

The Beach Boys’ band at that time was the idol of Daft Punk

In the 90s, before founding Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo led a band called ‘Darlin’ which was named after a song by the Beach Boys (1967). They are fans of the Beach Boys band.

3. The name ‘Daft Punk’ is taken from a bad review by a journalist

In a review of the band Darlin, the Melody Maker- a weekly British music magazine page (now decommissioned), rejected all of the group’s initial attempts and called ‘Darlin’ as “daft punky thrash”. Shortly thereafter, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo disbanded the old group and formed a new group namely ‘Daft Punk’.

4. Daft Punk doesn’t wear a helmet at first

Daft Punk didn’t wear a helmet and robotic outfit before, until their second album Discovery was released in 2001

Perhaps many people would think that Daft Punk was like that since its inception, but in fact, they did not wear helmets and robotic costumes before. It was not until their second album Discovery was released in 2001 that the duo began wearing robotic suits and helmets. They purposely brought in two characters from the future and that made the Daft Punk franchise so popular around the world.

8. Daft Punk once refused will.i.am about releasing a remix containing a sample of the song ‘Around the world

Like many other artists, will.i.am – a member of the famous group ‘The Black Eyed Peas’, also has a thirst for EDM. He produced a remix of his song ‘I Got It From My Mama’ and contained samples from Daft Punk’s track ‘Around the world’. However, since Daft Punk flatly turned it down, that will.i.am’s remix was not able released.
